Roundup of Texas Art Song Composers
Dr. Robert Gross, composer
Carmina Spei (Songs of Hope)
Performed by: Brooke Clark Gibson, mezzo-soprano, Alison Read, harp
1. Hope Is the Thing With Feathers - Text by Emily Dickinson
2. Mirage - Text by Christina Georgina Rosetti
3. Hope - Text by Arthur Conan Doyle
Notes from the composer, Robert Gross:
Carmina Spei is Latin for "Songs of Hope." I selected three poems on the topic of hope, and hopefully (!) the audience will be left with feelings of hope for a brighter future and a better tomorrow. It has been my privilege to write for the wonderful combination of Brooke GIbson and Alison Read, who are respectively a fantastic mezzo-soprano and harpist.
