Join Voces Intimae for Our 2019/2020 Season

Voces Intimae: The Art of Song invites you to be a part of our 2019/2020 Season "New Beginnings," which incorporates an entertaining combination of modern and traditional art song!

We begin our season in November with the concert "Distinguished Lives," sung by Soprano, Amy Canchola. Amy paints a picture of the four lives of immigrant women in the song cycle "Sueños De Esperanza" (2013) by composer Henry Mollicone. Then we hear the emotional song cycle, "Vignettes," written by Alan Smith about Evelyn & George Honts and the correspondence of young George, a soldier in WWII, to his Nevada-born bride.

In February, we collaborate with Neo Camerata and Mark Landson with Sergio Cepeda, Tenor to perform "The Juliet Letters," a song cycle written by Elvis Costello of pop/rock fame.

The season ends with "Musings," a series of Art Songs sung by our talented Artistic Director Kay George. Hear Art Songs from the 1850s through current times written by Cécile Chaminade, Joseph Marx, Ottorino Respighi, and Lori Laitman.

As part of our education program, Voces Intimae will offer a Student Liederabend for high school through college students in the Fall and an Adult Liederabend in early June that is open to the public and free of charge.

Voces Intimae is dedicated to the revitalization and promotion of art song in the North Texas region. It strives to provide education and performance opportunities to students and those who study art song just for the love of the art. Voces Intimae's annual Liederabend and master class series provides an opportunity for students and musicians to share the art of song in an informal and intimate setting. Meet up with fellow art song loves at a coffee shop or a local school to share the love of song.
ART SONG
Art Song is poetry set to music, usually performed by classically trained voice and piano accompaniment, at times with other instruments, in a chamber music setting. This medium is an art form combining the wisdom & insight of poetry with the inherent beauty of song & the scintillating drama of live performance with the power to stimulate public audiences in a thought provoking manner and enhance the quality of listener's lives.

Hugo Wolf 's Italian Songbook opens, "Auch kleine Dinge können uns entzücken,” or "even small things can entrance us."   Each song, no matter how seemingly small, can provide a portal into another world----we believe this form provides a different dramatic tableau for expression without the operatic trappings of sets, costumes, and instrumental ensembles. Rather art song brings us back to the purity of the word and the beautiful relationship between text and music.

Every Voces Intimae artist has a unique story to tell, and your presence helps bring these stories to life.

The art song is explained, using Schubert's "The Erlking" as an example. The art song became a popular form during the romantic period (1820-1900.)
